Editorial Standards

The short version: every fact traces to a source you can check, and every source is listed on the page.

Sources

Each article ends with a numbered list of the sources it relies on. We prefer the institution closest to the facts: the museum that holds the work, the artist's foundation or estate, the archive, the mint, the university that published the study. We use encyclopedias for orientation and rarely cite them, and never as the only support for a claim.

If we cannot confirm something, we leave it out. A shorter article beats a padded one.

What we do not do

  • We do not reproduce other publications' articles or images, including those of the earlier Art Tattler.
  • We do not invent authors, quotations, experts or credentials. Articles appear under the publication's name.
  • We do not give investment advice or predict prices. Where we cite an auction result, it comes from a public record named in the sources.

Commercial relationships

Coverage on Art Tattler is not for sale. If a page ever carries sponsored material, the page will say so plainly. If an article links to a business that shares ownership with Art Tattler, the article will say that too.

Corrections

Send corrections to hello@arttattler.com with the page address and the source that shows the error. We fix confirmed errors in the text and note substantive changes at the foot of the article.
